Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Stationary Steam

Several large stationary steam engines are located in the Stationary Steam building. Some of these engines were originally used to generate electricity and others did jobs such as provide power to a sorghum mill. The largest engine has a flywheel 12 ft. in diameter. A large Kewanee return flue boiler is used to provide steam to the engines. Dick Lurth from Mankato, Mn. and Tom Hemauer from Le Sueur, Mn. and Roger Strobel from Belle Plaine, Mn. are the engineers for this display.

A new concrete floor was installed in 2008 and makes it
much easier to work and keep the steam building clean.
